Simply put, I was a skeptic of chiropractic. I grew up going to the medical doctor and nothing more. Growing up I also had strep throat and was sick throughout the years even though I was very athletic. For years, I suffered with pain between my shoulder blades and other pains from playing sports and getting banged up. I was told dealing with the pain was just a part of being an athlete.
My wife grew up wanting to be a chiropractor. I never knew what a chiropractor was or did. She told me how her doctor would help her family with all sorts of ailments and kept them well. She told me she rarely ever was sick and when she was young, her chiropractor always knew how to help them naturally. I always had a desire to help people through natural means, so chiropractic seemed attractive.
So, I took it upon myself to shadow a few local chiropractors to make up my own mind. At this time in my life, I was pre-med in college, wanting to be a medical doctor. After shadowing a few chiropractic doctors I was amazed at how fast they helped people without medicine. The next day I went to the college counselor and changed my major to pre-chiropractic. Needless to say, the rest is history.
I went to Texas Chiropractic College because I wanted to stay in Texas and had researched how good it was. I was amazed at how much harder and in-depth the program was from my undergraduate work. I really enjoyed the Anatomy classes the most, working on many cadavers I learned a lot about the body. To this day, as an Anatomy instructor at night or talking to a patient, I draw on my experiences from TCC.
My wife and I enjoy being outside and active: mountain biking, surfing, jogging…if it’s outside we like it. I practice what I preach - I work out 6 days a week and rest 1 day. Most patients know they’ll never take more whole food supplements than I do. Keeping our body healthy and clean is so important, as a former professor said, “Cleanliness is next to Godliness”.
